The church – God’s family

The church is not first of all a building, but a community of people who follow Jesus. It is where we worship together, learn from the Word, support one another and serve the world around us.

We are not made to believe alone

The first Christians met often, and Scripture encourages us to keep this habit: “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another” (Hebrews 10:25). When we go through trials, our brothers and sisters in church can carry us in prayer and give us courage.

One body, many gifts

Paul compares the church to a body: “Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.” (1 Corinthians 12:27). Each person has a place and a gift: some sing, some teach, others cook, visit or help in practical ways. No one is too small or unimportant.

For reflection

What gift has God given you that you could use in the church? You are warmly welcome every Sabbath in Watford, whether you are coming for the first time or have known us for years.

Bible verses are quoted from the King James Version.
